The Istanbul Blues

I was already very saddened by the news of recent protests and violent outburst in the streets of Istanbul. I stood there in that very place where the chaos broke out in Taksim Square year before last and fell in complete love with the city as I pranced around buying jewelry watching it refract off my bronzed skin under the mediterranean sunlight.

I listened to the call of prayer, took a deep breath and thought to myself I have found a second home in Istanbul. It was like being in New York for me, except in a magical version submerged in breathtaking architecture, culture, history and most apparent of all LOVE. The Turkish people were amazing and embraced me with open arms. There wasn’t a single place I visited where I wasn’t greeted with coffee or tea. At night they wrap you in warm blankets and prop your feet up for you while they serve you hookah. And the night life is like that of no other! You may have think you’ve partied in life but you haven’t till you hit the streets of Istanbul after dark.

People so kind, cuisine so fine, endless baubles that shine. I could really get used to frequenting this place.  You see, I have this problem of me not being able to go any where without buying stuff for myself and others too like my mom, sister and besties! Take a peek at a few things I brought back:

  • Diamond and sapphire evil eye ring
  • Diamond evil eye and glass charm on roap
  • Muslim prayer cuff – GOLDAS
  • Muslim prayer earrings – GOLDAS
  • Bangels – blue agate and gold

This week The World Federation of Diamond Bourses is holding its President’s Meeting inIstanbul despite the recent violence that was too close for comfort for their sister group the International Diamond Manufacturers Association, who opted out on their attendance.

Apparently safety wasn’t the only issue that affected the IDMA’S presence this year. It was reported that they had a lackluster turn out of registrants as well. Sad because Istanbul is a wonderful place to hold the meeting.

Nonetheless, I will continue to keep the people of Turkey in my prayers and close to my heart.

Each and every place I go you can count on me checking out two things for sure; the jewels and the plants. I may be a dainty diamond darling but I am also a total garden girl at heart! I have to take off my rings and swap them out for a pair of planting gloves from time to time. While on vacay always make sure to stop and smell the roses!
