BaselWorld is starting next week, which is super exciting. One of my favorite things to see is the booths that are created out of independent designers banding together. I love the support they have for one another and how they co-exist in one small space sharing their most prized possessions: their works of art. They have an inherent sense of pride and all are in it for the same reasons. They believe in what they do and put love into each piece that fabricate.
If anyone knows about togetherness it is the Greeks! Last year I met the most amazing group of them. Meet HELLENIC WAVE. The ultra cool octet of uber talented Greek designers made up of the following:
Christina Soubli, Ileana Makri, Michael Pelamidis, Myrto Anastasopoulou, Polina Sapouna-Ellis, Theodoros, Venyx World and Yannis Sergakis Adornments.
The artists dynamically debuted in the Baselworld Jewellery and Watches 2015 Show as Contemporary Greek Designers. Through the potency of creative alliance, they aspire to showcase contemporary Greek fine jewellery design to international markets.
My favorite piece was this incredible dateable fish ring. I wanted to bring it home for my Greek mommy!
Other cool designs included these flexible mesh gold hand adornments. Long gone are the days of just plain gloves. Time to step your game up with real gold ones. LOVE!
I look forward to seeing what they will have this year and spending time at all eight booths!
Check out one east coast store’s idea of an awesome Apple gift. This is definitely no longer your average techi-nerd smartwatch.
Mervis Diamonds Importers, once voted “Best Place To Buy a Diamond” via the Washington Post, decided to add more than a little glitz and glamour to the number one item on every Apple fanatic’s wish list. Resulting in the unveiling of the “Diamond iWatch”.
Their vision includes none other than the hottest metal of the holiday season: 18-karat rose gold for the band covered in full cut round diamonds. They even placed the blinged-out version of the watch to their store’s gift guide.
The Diamond iWatch features eight rows of round brilliant-cut diamonds set in a shared-prong tennis bracelet design. Includes more than 15 carats of diamonds, E/F in color and VS1/VS2 in clarity.
Jonathan Mervis had a genius idea by adding the item to their gift book. He wanted something to stop consumers in their tracks and give them the itch to come by store this season. A nice contrast to the staple pieces of every other store’s catalogue filled with diamond studs, halo engagement rings and your mother’s tennis bracelets!
Due to the lack of information given to the public on the release of the actual Apple Watch, the Washington, D.C. retailer rendered a life like version to the public instead.
Diamond iWatch Facts:
The retail price for this version is $30,150.
Prices will vary based on the metal chosen as well as the quality of the diamonds
Mervis is open to customizing the piece according to what the buyer wantS.
Once the Apple Watch is actually released and the retailer can buy a few, it will customize iWatches for its customers.
Currently, Apple has not released any details about where it will be selling its smartwatch, but Mervis said that even if the store doesn’t become an authorized seller of the Apple Watch, it will go to a retailer that is and purchase a select amount to set with diamonds and sell as the “Diamond iWatch.”
The first run of production will be extremely limited.
My goal is to make five to 10 in this production and that the second edition might be different – Mervis told National Jeweler.
The retailer is not yet accepting pre-payments for the watch but has posted it on its website to gauge interest via pre-orders.
Mervis said that the Diamond iWatch is garnering attention from all over the world, including from a number of buyers in the Middle East. Pre-orders are expected to ship in June 2015.
How fitting that right in line with Pink October we see a record breaking rare pink diamond become one of the most expensive gems ever sold at a auction Sotheby’s in Hong Kong this moth.
The Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink Diamond, weighing in at 8.41 carats and mined and cut from a 19.54-carat rough by the world’s leading diamond corporation, De Beers.
Sold for $17.8 million.
An Asian private buyer bought the diamond, which Sotheby’s had mounted. Its sale shattered the former record of $10.8 million, which was set in November 2009, also in Hong Kong, for a 5-carat fancy vivid pink diamond.
Considering its impressive clarity – graded as Internally Flawless (IF) – the estimate was bound to be surpassed and it was!
Please be sure to wear your pink (jewels or not) this month to show your support in the fight against breast cancer. This cause is very near and dear to me as both my mother and grandmother survived it. Fight like girl and wear PINK!
Once again, Lorraine reigns as the brains behind the red carpet bling. It comes as no surprise that Lorraine Schwartz steals the spotlight for most placements at this years VMA Awards. It seemed as if nearly every female celebrity was donning a piece of her and/or her sister Ofira’s line. She is the undeniable “pour some sugar on me” jewel go to for any award show these days. I love that her jewels come in an assortment of styles and a plethora of palates. She has something to go with just about anything anyone who’s anybody is wearing! Most notably, Lorraine Schwartz Jewels drenched the Queen B, whom she proudly proclaims is her muse. See Beyonce’s beautiful face framed in over 100 carats of hand-carved black jade and with white diamonds. Now that’s a chandelier! She can double it as a mobile for Blu’s crib when she gets home. Also pictured is one of LS’s many diamond bauble rings you saw that evening.
(Beyonce in Nicolas Jebran + LS Jewles)
See some of the many stars who chose Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira Jewels for the evening:
Kim K opted for simple jewels since she already was weighed down with tons of double sided tape to engineer her ideal cleavage in Balmain. She wore giant diamond studs to keep her enourmous engagement ring company on the carpet.
Kelly Rowland in Kaufman Franco went the overboard route with large earrings, stacked bracelets and a coral cabochon ring, all set with brown rose cuts and diamonds. Gwen Stefani in L.A.M.B. couture was beautiful but made me yawn in this outfit. I wish it were a dress and not pants. The length of the top was awkward and the bracelet needs to go. Her black diamond LS ear climbers and rings were a nice touch though. Sadly, the only thing I liked about Taylor Swifts look was her hair and makeup and the jewelry wasn’t anything special. I am not a fan of this Mary Katrantzou romper suit or the shoe. Please leave these to Bey & JLo. Only Rita Ora knows how to take all the elements of elegance and raunch them up but still look good doing it. It is not for us to understand. I see what they were going for but the Donna Karan atelier look came off as cheap yet hot Hollywood glam. However, the art deco style ruby stud earrings and diamond LS chocker were gorgeous!
Beyonce in Zuhair Murad equals perfection. She does everything with class! The LS earrings and oversized cocktail ring were the perfect addition to the exiting number she wore.
I can’t tell you how confused I was while watching the VMA’s last night. I swear to you it was some of the worst fashion I have seen in a long time. I am still trying to figure why + how some of these celeb’s stylists allowed them to walk of out the house looking beyond tacky! The best explantation that I can conjure up is that the entire red carpet was a Bird Cage costume tribute in honor of the Robin Williams slide show that was shown!
Some of the fashion was so horrific I almost don’t care to share. However, I sternly without any hesitation other than the thought of Taylor Swift’s flat rear in her outfit last night, dub Amber Rose my worst dressed of the entire evening in a silver chain-link halter dress by Laura Dewitt. It kills me to do so because she is so sweet but we are simply not all created equal to Rihanna. She has a bit toning up to do before bearing it all in what looks like a giant piece of costume jewelry paired with a matching bra & panties – which was a poor attempt to de-slutify the awful ensemble. If you’re going to wear jewelry as clothes, there needs to be some form of lining/foundation/material in it. Perhaps a high waisted boy-short would’ve been better?
People were quick to pic-stitch Amber Rose & Rose McGowen along side of one another calling it an EPIC FAIL of attempting to re-invent the look. In my opinion this reminded me of what Kim Kardashian wore in her Playboy spread circa 2007. Except hers were pearls and we all know that makes it classier (sarcasm). Honestly, Kim’s look was hot given the context. Appropriately worn in an iconic magazine and not worn on the red carpet made it acceptable. What kind of husband wants their wife dressed in public like this anyway? I don’t think that would fly with Kanye! I’m just saying…
Sorry Amber, you’re gorgeous and l love you, so much that I named my adopted horse after you because she’s pretty and blonde with a lovely backside. But please don’t do this again!
Hollywood’s sexiest latin lady of the red carpet, Sofia Vergara, has partnered with Kay® Jewelers to launch her jewelry collection, aptly named SOFIA VERGARA so Sofia™.
The collection captures the look of fine jewelry at an affordable price. Sofia’s cheerful, vibrant and sultry style shines through many of the pieces in the collection.
She pays homage to her home country of Columbia by inserting hidden hints of emeralds in the sides and under galleries of the jewelry. She has created for the public a collection that showcases her personal taste. She recently donned two pieces of So Sophia, before announcing the line, creating a media frenzy suggesting she had gotten engaged to her beau. A genius PR move on her part to promote the unveling of the line!
Sofia is about as obsessed with jewels as they come. I have had the pleasure of working with her style team in the past and she is definitely hands on with the accessories that make up her finishing looks.
While you’re not getting the luxurious jewels that Sophia adorns on the red carpet, you can purchase her signature line at a fraction of the cost in sterling silver and 10K gold creations with lab created bold gemstones and genuine diamonds.
The SOFIA VERGARA so Sofia™ collection is available exclusively at select Kay® Jewelers stores or online at kay.com and retails from $230 – $1600 USD.
Kudos Sophia! See some of my picks from the collection here:
Been tuning in to World Cup festivities? Germany took the title and Argentinians lost their marbles in the street riots they caused in their home country. Seriously? Get over it! There can only be one winner! No need for violence and vandalism.
However, I will tell you where everybody won; getting to see JLo do her thing at the opening ceremony! Her performance was highly anticipated as she was scheduled to perform and nearly didn’t make it this year.
The Bronx beauty was stunning in all her Brazilian looks (minus her ice princess tights) and most notably decked out in Yeprem Jewels! See this designer’s cool ear spikes, elaborate rings and blinged out bracelets below that the design house posted.
I happen to be a little obsessed with pink and turquoise looks on the red carpet. I don’t think it all has to do with them both being my favorite colors but rather the way the two sing in harmony while still making bold contrast statements when paired perfectly! In recent fashion history we have seen many jaw-dropping looks from leading ladies of Hollywood such as Cameron Diaz (circa 2007 in Dior + Fred Leighton) and Jessica Alba (Circa 2013 in Reem Acra + Wendy Yu / Sutra). However, recently Emmy Rossum surprised us all when she stepped out like a grown woman [that was in my Beyonce voice] at this year’s Critic Choice Awards.
See Emmy Rossum rock it in a popping pink separates ensemble from Monique Lhuillier topped off with 77 carats of oversized Sutra turquoise earrings including nearly 5 carats of dazzling rose cut diamonds and round brilliants in the halo.

Introducing the 2014 Pantone color of the year RADIANT ORCHID!
It’s a sensually warm yet brightly innovative tone that’s mesmericly mixed with hues of pinks to create the perfect hybrid of flushing fuchsia and passionate purples resembling the unique botanical bloom! Many brands have already jumped on the trend.
See my favorite picks below:
Tiffany & Co. has already released their beautiful trio of pantone related pieces that include rings in diamond and platinum settings, from the 2013 Blue Book Collection, set with (clockwise from left) a pear-shaped violet spinel, an oval pink sapphire and a round pink spinel. I would call this a double trend due to the fact that this also the year of the spinel if my projections are correct!
A standard unmatched Chopard released this purple spinel in their 2013 Red Carpet Collection proving they’re ahead of their time! Take note of the beautifully diamond-paved doubled sided shank!
